The Buffalo occupies the second position in the Chinese zodiac.
The origin of the Chinese zodiac dates back to the Jade Emperor, chief of the gods, who wanted to select 12 animals to form his close guard. The order of passing through this Celestial Gate would determine the rank of the animals.

The next day, the buffalo got up early, saw no inconvenience and, unfazed, continued the crossing. Once the river was crossed, the ox ran to the palace of the Jade Emperor. However, arrived at the level of the latter, the mouse which had been hidden in the ears of the buffalo suddenly came out of its ear to throw itself at the foot of the emperor, ahead of the ox and thus winning the first place. Thus, the buffalo became the second animal in the cycle.
